ORTHODOXY IN MOTION
Under the motto “Orthodoxy in motion”, the Day for the Clergy and Youth of the Holy Archdiocese of Belgium took place for the third time on Monday, May 1, 2017, just outside of Brussels.
In a very nice place in Kortenberg, in the Flemish border around Brussels, clergy and young people had the opportunity to meet in an old, local abbey and talk together about the theme of Orthodox Tradition.
The day began with the Divine Liturgy, celebrated by His Eminence Metropolitan Athenagoras of Belgium and Exarch of the Netherlands and Luxembourg. The Divine Liturgy was embellished with the hymns of two multilingual choirs, which existed on the right of young people, and left of clergy from the Archdiocese.
The Secretary of the Youth Work Committee of the Archdiocese of Belgium, fr.Ciprian Popescu, delivered the homily, giving a small introduction to the subject of the day.
After a coffee break there was a walk through a park and a lunch; interactive activities provided young people from the Benelux with a chance to get to know each other better.
After the meal, the youth was split up into smaller groups according to their own language, where everyone could discuss their view on the meaning of the theme of the day – “Orthodoxy on the move” – with a few clergymen. There were fruitful dialogues and interesting visions shared about the role that Orthodoxy can play today, because Orthodoxy is no pointless idea, or another philosophical movement, or a static museum of the past, but a living tradition that so much to offer to this world.
The clerics of the Archdiocese had their own workshop led by Metropolitan Athenagoras, discussing various topics that concern the pastoral care of the parishes, but especially the most important part: the pastoral ministry.
In the end a general overview was given of what was said in the workshops, and a general decision of the day, where His Eminence thanked the clergy and the young for their response to his call to the third annual meeting, as well as the clergy who cooperate in the Youth Work Committee, for the excellent organization of the event.
Finally, the young people agreed to attend the next annual Three-Day Meeting that will take place in the proximity of Ghent in October 2017.
